HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2012

Such an exciting time at STG!!!

Firstly a New Year, resolutions, goals, ideas etc etc...stay tuned for a NEW look sometime in 2012.

Recently some entries have been excluded from the voting because they have been used for more than one challenge, and in one case that entry was the favourite here at STG. So disappointing!

The 2nd half of the Scrap the Girls CT is...

Jasmine Shea
1) I guess my first official crop was the night I became addicted to this craft.  Way back in August 2006.  Wow, was it really that long ago?? A kinder mum held a class and I went along with my bestie Mel and from there……here I am.

2) How cool was I that night?  I actually scrapped TWO, not just one, but TWO photos on a page for my first ever LO…..but, I have to tell you, I used paper only. Not one embellie.  I don’t even know that I had a title. And I thought it was soooooo good.  I can never show you but I do however plan to re-scrap those pics one day. They were photos of my 3 boys jumping in puddles in the driveway.  Very cute.

1) The first scrapbooking conference/crop/get together/class I went to was my SIL's Creative Memories party, which I almost didn't get to due to heavy traffic! Glad I made it :)

2) The first photo I ever scrapped was a photo of...
It  was actually 6 photos...all different shapes, from oval, circle,  rounded corners & freehand cut around the person. They were photos  of each of my children, a year apart...a then & now view. Haha it's  an absolute shocker, but it started me on this wonderful path!!!

1) My  first scrapbooking crop was a CREATIVE MEMORIES party in 2000.  I had  recently had my first child, Jack, and was pregnant with my second, all  in one year might I add.  Any excuse to get out of the house was  welcome.  So off I went with a bundle of photos and no idea what to  expect.  I was hooked the moment I saw the stickers! I bought everything  on offer and went home and cut all my photos into circles and ovals,  wedding photos included.  Seriously, what was I thinking?  Eleven years  later I am still scrapping but thankfully I have progressed from circles  and ovals.
2) First photo ever scrapped would have been Jack’s baby photos in hospital …. was a nice patchwork spread!

1) at  Sherry Mendoza's house, who at the time was technical editor of   Scrapbooking Memories Magazine & I joked that I knew I was at a   technical editors house when there was a bookcase full of SM mags in the   toilet!!! A funny night.

2) Funnily  enough, I was too scared to use a "real" photo first up, so I  used a  photo of Marilyn Monroe from a book. It took me months to get the   courage to actually use real printed photos.

1)  First scrapbooking get together I ever went to was a good old Creative Memories party
2) The first photo I ever scrapped was of my then 6 month old daughter, Madison (who is now 9)

I am sooo excited about what these ladies will bring to STG! Can't wait each month to see their INSPIRATIONAL samples!

New Creative Team

Firstly I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the OUTGOING CT members...their work has been just gorgeous over the past 6 and for some, 12 months.

The interest in the CT call was BIG, bigger than I was expecting....so I had a VERY tough decision to make! If I had it my way I would have had 15 on the CT...but that's a little big LOL so I have narrowed it down to 10...don't know how I did it!

So in alphabetcial order, I present to you the first half of
the Creative Team for STG for July 2011 - December 2011 (with two ROCKWIZ style questions to learn a little more about them -

Jodie Butler
1) I've never taken a proper scrapbooking class before but I used to attend a scrapbooking group at the local arts centre once a week. I don't go anymore though, as all my scrappy friends went and got themselves jobs! If anyone knows of any good retreats held in WA I'd love to know...

2) The first photos I ever scrapped were of a family camping trip way back in 2004. It was a double layout inspired by a Becky Higgins sketch. I can't remember doing too many more doubles after that one though!

1) The first big crop I went to would have been a 12 hour Creative Memories National Scrapbook day event. I didn’t think I’d last the distance but the time flew by.
2) Multiple photo’s actually, about 5 pictures of my eldest son’s second Christmas.

Michelle Jamieson
1) I think the first scrapbooking class I ever attended was at my local scrap store, that sadly is no longer. I loved what I could do with pretty papers, glue and a photo. Yes, it really was that simple back then. How your scrapbooking style evolves over time?
2) The first scrapbooking page I ever created was photos from a holiday my husband(then boyfriend) and I went on to the Great Ocean Rd in Victoria. It was part of my very first album. I cringe when I look at it now, but at the time I loved it. The photos remind me of the great time we had on that trip and that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?

Kerryn Lawson
1) The first crop I went to was at the home of a lady who has become a great friend of mine. She owned an online scrapbooking store at the time and when she discovered I lived 5 minutes down the road from her she invited me to her next crop night. That was about 3 1/2 years ago now I reckon, maybe a little bit more. She no longer owns that online store but is one of the beautiful people I am lucky enough to call my friend.

2) The first photo I ever scrapped was a photo of my children playing on a playground. I started by scrapping photos from our first family holiday and that very first page took me days LOL. It’s a bit plain and boring and well... cringe worthy now, but it holds great memories and that’s the most important part.

What does a Creative Team member have to do?
You will be required to create a sample page of each month's challenge for inspiration, which must be emailed to me BEFORE the 1st of each month - you will receive approx a month to do each page.
You will be required to promote the STG challenge every month on your personal blog.
STG CT members also have to vote each month to determine the challenge winners.
STG CT members are not eligible to win monthly prizes whilst they are on the team.

STG CT members are encouraged to leave comments on entry pages linked to the STG blog each month.
Successful applicants will be notified by email by the 3rd of June, and will be required to complete their 1st layout as a CT member before the 30th June 2011.

It has been a wonderful experience running this blog for the past 18months, but an increasing work load and not a lot of time for scrapping or blogging at the moment has made me realise it is time to move on.

Wicked princesses are looking for a new Princess!

Would you like to be a part of a fun and friendly forum,have a fabulous kit to work with each month and design challenges and inspire others? If you answered yes then this is the opportunity for you!

Monthly requirements for the role are: Regular chatting on our friendly forum Supporting the gallery Creating 4 kit examples each month (3 examples and a step by step) Designing challenges and examples. In return you will receive a kit per month to create examples and step by step with and a generous store discount :-)

How to apply: Wicked Princesses is a kit based site and I would love to see how you work with one of the kits in the store. The successful applicant will each month be required to create 3 kit examples and a step by step with the kit. I would like to see your work and the sorts of things you would create with the kit :-) other requirements of the application is designing challenges for cybercrops and monthly challenges so I would love for you to design a challenge and create an example. Retreat to Main Creek features 2 very large comfortable recreation rooms in which to scrap, as well as a fully self contained cottage in which to sleep! Hi my name is Chantal and I'm married to a wonderful husband, Jason, and we have two adorable girls, Lucy (7 years) and Heidi (2 years).
How long have you been scrapping? I have been scrapping for about two and a half years now, but only started to get "seriously" into it since January this year. Now I scrap alot and I'm lovin' it!!!
What inspires you to scrap? My girls provide me most of my inspiration, because they are so full of life. I try to capture this in my photos and then with my scrapping.
What is your greatest scrapbooking achievement? Well, being asked to do this is one of them! Also being published is a great honour and thrill - I've been published and am to be published in Scrapbook Creations, Scrapbooking Memories, Creativity!, Scrapbook Magazine (UK) and Somerset Memories (US) so far. I am also very honoured to be a part of a design team and I'm a current Scrapbook Apprentice Australia finalist, which is run by Print Blocks & Creativity! Magazine.
What’s your favourite girly scrapbooking product? Probably buttons, brads, bling and ribbon... and most definately patterned paper.
Who are your favourite manufacturers? Sassafras Lass, October Afternoon and Echo Park.What’s your favourite scrapbooking technique to use on your pages? I totally love mixing and combining certain colours to convey the energy of the photo and what I'm trying to say. I also love drawing and doodling, painting, hand-cutting and lots of layering.
Do you have any favourite scrapbooker’s that you go to for ‘girly’ scrapping inspiration? Yes! There are so many that I adore! But if I have to narrow it down to just a few I'd say Leeann Pearce, Kerry Murray and Jing-Jing Nickel (who's a US girl).

Hi, i'm Emily.. from Broken Hill in country NSW. I was born and grew up here in Broken Hill, moved away a few times but keep coming back lolI live with my hubby Jason, and my two children Jaxon (9) and Jayda (6 ), and our dog! Apart from scrapbooking, I love Photography and card making.
How long have you been scrapping?

I started about 8 years ago now on a heritage album for My Nana, then when i finished that..I was hooked and i just kept going!
What inspires you to scrap?

Usually the photos, but i have to say i love a challenge and my scrap mojo thrives on it! also new products always do the trick.
What is your greatest scrapbooking achievement?

I have been lucky enough to have been published in Scrapbooking Memories twice, which i never thought would happen! I have also been on a couple of design teams in the past.
What’s your favourite girly scrapbooking product?

Buttons, Bling, flowers, and glittery/sparkly things.
Who are your favourite manufacturers?

So hard to choose, there is so much great stuff out right now. Umm.. October Afternoon, My minds Eye, Jenni Bowlin, Pink Paislee (just to name a few lol)
What’s your favourite scrapbooking technique to use on your pages?

Distressing, layering, handwritten journaling.
Do you have any favourite scrapbooker’s that you go to for ‘girly’ scrapping inspiration?

I admire so many different scrappers, for different reasons, i wouldn't be able to choose just one.I love to blog surf and always find so much inspiration from that, and the very talented ladies out there!

The rules are to use every piece of the puzzle ONCE ONLY! you can't add anything else to your page aside from the elements, they represent all the patterned papers, photos and embellishments - (exception to this rule is your base page does not count as a puzzle piece and you can add a title, ink, stitching, paint & glimmermist ;))

the stars can represent ANY embellishment, the heart must be used as a heart, the circles must be used as circles - it is up to you how big or small they are, or what they are!

The puzzle pieces are obviously not to scale, it is completely up to you what size you want to make them.

Hi I'm Barbara Turner and I am 33 years old, married to Ben and we have three children, Lily, Sam and Grace. I live in a Dungog, a small country town in the Hunter. I am very honored and shocked to be a featured scrapper at Scrap the Girls!!!

How long have you been scrapping?

I have been scrapping for approx 3 years. I started out at a Kazzaz party. The last 12 months has seen me become more addicted and joining in on online forums, challenge sites and attending retreats!!

What inspires you to scrap?

Lots of things: special occasions, family, but mostly my kids

What is your greatest scrapbooking achievement?

Receiving my first "happy mail" from Scrapbooking Memories and of course being asked to do this

What’s your favourite girly scrapbooking product?

I love using crocheted dollies on my girlie layouts and I am also starting to get addicted to adding Glimmer mist on my layouts

Who are your favourite manufacturers?

I really love Crate Paper and Kaisercraft Papers

What’s your favourite scrapbooking technique to use on your pages?

I love to distress, use foam tape and fussy cutting. And nearly every layout has some ink and black pen

Oh my list would be too long!!!! I am always blog hopping (just ask Ben) as there are so many talented girls out there and so many friendly forums that share techniques and ideas. I have a massive blog list with people that inspire me

I have noticed that most of the regular challenge blogs that I really like and contribute to - such as Scrap the Boys, Kraft it Up and Stuck?! have started using a link-it tool for the entries, so that you directly link it to the blog yourself instead of emailling it in the blog co-ordinator.
I am assuming that these girls have done this because it can be quite time consuming uploading the entries to the blog each month!
What I want to know is.........Is this something you would like to see at Scrap the Girls?? do you find it easier to upload your entries this way or would you prefer to email them through??
